Activation Therapy/Friendly Visiting Program
Huntsville Hospital Auxiliary is recruiting adult volunteers interested in making a difference in the lives of our Patients who are staying in hospital. Do you have two hours a week to spend enhancing the care of our patients? We currently have morning or afternoon week-day shifts available. Morning shifts run Thursdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Afternoon shifts run Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 1 – 3 p.m.
In this position, you will be supporting the Activation Therapy programs offered to patients, and assist with meal delivery – and the friendly visiting program. You will have a support staff member who will be there for you along the way.
Being a volunteer requires us to ensure that your safety and the safety of our Patients are being met. We will help you with the process, but you will need: a vulnerable persons sector police check, immunizations required for volunteering, character references, orientation to the role (2.5 days), willingness to commit to a minimum of 6 months and an Auxiliary membership fee of $30 (includes vest or smock).

Volunteers provide patient support while they engage in recreation/leisure activities. The activities may include physical, technical and/or relational support depending on the program. Volunteers must possess communication/listening abilities, as continual interaction with patients and staff are a primary aspect of this role.
In this role you will have opportunities to help Patients and families in your community. You will play an important part in enhancing the care your local hospital offers to our patients and learn new skills. You will meet other members of your community who volunteer and work here – You will have an opportunity to make a difference!
